A complex cover for a complex novel

This book was undoubtedly one of the most influential reads in my life, and it was opening to me from the different angles at different points of my life; that is why designing the cover for it was delightful and challenging at the same time. The artwork was inspired by the plot of the book, referring to the main heroine who was imprisoned by the obsessed stalker but also was trapped in the ideas of who she was supposed to be planted in her mind by society and upbringing.

The artwork was stitched out on a rice paper with the black waxed thread to emphasize the contrast of textures, and the photograph was taken with a lit candle behind it to capture the organic nature of the canvas. The selection of the font, that reminds the ones on typewriter machines, was based on a period the story was taking place and the fact that the main hero was a city clerk and his manner of speech was very bureaucratic and impersonal.
